Solo exhibition of seven artists invited by Korea Masters Association

First exhibition of the new year in Insa-dong, January 1 ~ 6, 2025

K-민화 이성준 기자 | From January 1 to 6, 2025, a solo exhibition of seven artists invited by Korea Masters Association will be held on the second floor of the Korean Museum of Art in Insa-dong, Seoul.

The exhibition will showcase each artist's original works on the theme of folk painting, and will bring a cultural touch to the beginning of the new year.

The seven invited artists are Lee Mi-hyung, Kim Mi-jeong, Kim Sun-hee, Kim Young-joo, Oh Se-hee, Woo Hyun-jin, and Lee Yoon-jung, who will showcase their contemporary interpretations of the folk painting tradition with different philosophies and emotions.

Introducing the artists and their works

Artist Lee Mi-hyung defines folk painting as “color painting” and shows works that bring to life the sketches of traditional folk painting. She explains that the essence of coloring is to bring energy and life, emphasizing the role of traditional folk painting artists.

Kim Mi-jeong's work, titled “Nakchulheo (樂出虚),” expresses the joy that comes from the quietness and emptiness of the mind. “Folk paintings have become a part of my life,” she said, expressing her deep appreciation for the work.

Kim Sun-hee's work, “The Study of the Musicians,” conveys the message of praying for the fulfillment of one's sincere wishes and dreams.

Kim Young-ju is exploring the world of folk paintings with “Deeper Taste” based on the depth of her three-year works of folk painting.

Oh Se-hee captured moments of healing through folk paintings, and expressed her gratitude for the exhibition, saying, “What started as an accidental folk painting has led to a special day, a solo exhibition.”

Woo Hyun-jin expressed her ambition to serve as a bridge between the tradition of folk paintings and the modern world, and presented works that reflect her dream of introducing folk paintings to the world.

Lee Yoon-jung expressed the precious time she spent working on folk paintings through various works that capture the vitality of nature from the moment it soaks into the ink paper.
